THE OATH (E)

Shot in an introspective, austere style, this award-winning documentary tells the story of Salim Hamdan, tried in Guantanamo as a terrorist because he once worked for Osama Bin Laden.

But the film’s real focus is his brother-in-law Abu Jandal, a Yemen taxi driver whose life takes all sorts of twists and turns. Director Laura Poitras’ film tells their story while smartly exploring hot issues of terrorism, torture and military trials. The film is released on DVD alongside Poitras’ equally riveting Oscar-nominated doc My Country My Country, about a doctor running for office in Iraq’s tension-filled 2005 elections. (Dogwoof) 9/10
