PRIDE OF YOUR LIFE

Wa gwan on the big day…

THE PARADE

This year, due to road works happening on Oxford Street, the parade route is slightly altered (are there ever not road works on Oxford Street, we ask?)

Form-up of the parade will be in Portland Place, with the head of the parade leaving from outside BBC Broadcasting House at 1pm, working its way down Regent Street as normal, then on to Piccadilly Circus, across Pall Mall and past Trafalgar Square and ending on Whitehall. Get there early, find your street spot and shout out your support for the thousands of volunteers, fellow homosexualists and friends taking part!

UK AIDS MEMORIAL QUILT EXCLUSIVE DISPLAY

Prowler Store, 5-7 Brewer Street, Soho, W1F 0RF
27th June – 9th August.

As part of the Pride celebrations 2011 there’s going to be an exclusive display of the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt in Soho sex shop Prowler. Dr Patrick Williams, the vice-chair of Pride London, said ‘I’m delighted that Pride London has been given access to the UK Aids Memorial Quilt as part of our Pride celebrations 2011. The quilt is a powerful memorial to all those who have died of HIV/AIDS in the UK and a reminder that HIV is still very much with us. Through displaying the UK Aids Memorial Quilt at Pride we hope people will remember those lost to HIV/AIDS and it will remind all of us to look after ourselves and each other.’

SO-HOTTIE TALENT PAGEANT

The Shadow Lounge, 5-7 Brewer Street, Soho, W1F 0RF
Friday 1st July

Our bars in Soho are filled to the brim with sexy and buff bar boys, girls and burly men, so the organisers of Pride London have decided what better way to celebrate our talent than with an old school beauty pageant! Each contestant will parade at the Shadow Lounge on Pride Eve, with the winner going on to lead the Pride Parade on July 2nd! So turn out and decide whose wonderful face is going to represent Pride.

TRAFALGAR SQUARE

Saturday 2nd July

The countdown’s clicking until Pride London 2011, and so perhaps it’s best to get acquainted with what’s going on in terms of acts and events at the big stage in Trafalgar Square now. The line-up for the big Pride stage is as follows: The Original Bucks Fizz, Six D, Dusty O, Rachel Adedeji, Ryan Levi Saunders, Stavros Flatley, Oh My!, Guilty Pleasures featuring the Dreambears and Hot Gussett and Greymatter. We know, hardly earth shattering stuff, but hey, the atmosphere’s lovely down there…

PRIDE FAMILY AREA

St Anne’s Church Gardens, 55 Dean Street, Soho, W1D 6AF. 2pm-7pm.

New this year, the Pride London team are delighted to announce a space dedicated to their smaller Pride Participants: thanks to Out at Tesco they will be throwing open the gates of St Anne’s Church Gardens for their first Pride family area. Here you’ll find everything you need for a fun and friendly day out including a ball pit, bouncy slide, children’s entertainers (including balloon artists, magicians and clowns), a refreshment tent and charity stalls, plus toilets with baby changing facilities.

SOHO

The main streets of Soho will be closed to traffic as gay bars and local businesses bring the fun of their inside out onto the (hopefully) sunny streets of London’s most colourful and vibrant of villages. Bringing together people from all walks of life 365 days a year, Saturday 2nd July sees Soho celebrating its LGBT community, so pop along, have a drink in your local gay boozer and cheer on ‘Gay Christmas Day’ that some people refer to as ‘Gay Pride’!

FIRE DANCE STAGE

Soho Square
Saturday 2nd July, from 2pm.

Fire, one of London’s biggest gay clubs, hosts the dance stage again this year. DJs will include Steve Pitron, Mikey D, Fat Tony, Jamie Head, D’Johnny, Gonzalo Rivas, Jonny M, The Oli, Sharp Boys, Verity Mayes and Paul Martin.

They’re also thrilled to be welcoming Sonique to the stage as one of the massive PAs, performing the anthem ‘Feels So Good’. Plus, there’s a very special guest which we can’t announce – just be there at 7pm!

CARNIVAL OF LOVE STREET PARTY

Saturday 2nd July, Archer Street, Soho, W1

Archer Street Bar (Formerly Barcode Soho) and Bocca Di Lupo are taking over Archer Street with live shows throughout the day. You can expect a Brazilian carnival extravaganza, Miss Danni Dee and her sexy boys, plus Burlesque by the It Girls and DJ Adam Fabulous on the decks. Pints of beer will be just £2,50 with a jug of Pimms for just £10.50 – not forgetting delicious food available throughout the day from Bocca Di Lupo.

LONDON SISTERS ACT OF REMEMBRANCE

St Anne’s Church Gardens, 55 Dean Street, Soho, W1D 6AF. 4pm-5pm.

As the City looks forward to celebrating the madness, happiness and proud natured Pride London coming on July 2nd, The Sisters will be taking some time out to conduct ‘An Act of Remembrance’ to celebrate and remember those who are no longer with us, those who have fought for our community and cannot be with us due to severe illness. Pride is a time for community building, so come along, light a candle and share some love.
