TALKIN’ ABOUT A REVOLUTION

Rich B returns to the dancefloor with a pumpin’ take on a club classic…

Tell us about the new record – it’s a remake, right?

Yes, ‘Revolution’ first came out in 2002. And now these new mixes are really taking off – straight onto Gaydar Radio’s A-List and now No.1 on their Listeners’ Choice Chart! It has been signed by the massive Toolbox label, and is released through beatport.com on Monday 19th March. We also have big-name remixes in the pipeline for a second release in May.

And how did you get involved with Marcella Puppini? That’s quite a voice to have on a record.

I first met Marcella 12 years ago when she was a waitress in a cocktail bar! I ran a night there and she asked if she could perform – and she was brilliant! Marcella has enjoyed a lot of success in recent years – The Puppini Sisters have just had an international hit with Michael Buble, and her other band, Marcella and The Forget Me Nots, are really taking off now, too. She’s a classically trained musician, so knows her stuff – just wait until you hear the harmonies on our follow-up, ‘What Have You Done To Your Face?’, which we finished recording last week!

And who else is involved?

The brilliant James Hurr engineered these new mixes – he really is a talent to watch – and the equally brilliant David Rothwell and Rikardo Machio are producing the video. Also, Toolbox Recordings and my management at www.rl-management.com, both of whom are being really supportive. And there is the crew at the RVT, who have given me endless support and are like family to me. There is a lot of love involved in this project – in fact it’s a Love Revolution!

Why did you decide to take it from a record to a club night?

The event at the RVT is a special one-off launch party for the single release – it’s going to be a big celebration, fantastic show and a night out clubbing not to be missed.

What else is happening on the night?

Marcella is doing an exclusive P.A. of ‘Revolution’ and we’re planning quite a show. She will also be performing the world debut of the follow-up single. The DJ line-up features all the DJs who have supported ‘Revolution’ from the very start. The legend that is Sean Sirrs is playing, as is birthday boy Simon Le Vans, and the fantastic Phil Marriott from GaydarRadio. I’ll be playing, too. And there will be all the high production values from the RVT – the sound and lights are second-to-none. If you haven’t been before you are going to be very impressed.

• Revolution is at the RVT (372 Kennington Lane, Vauxhall, SE11 5HY) on Friday 16th March, with the single released on www.beatport.com on Monday 19th March.
