BAKE YOUR BOX

Promoted as a box full of your favourite DJs, tunes and of course hot men, Bakebox is back for its fourth instalment on the May Bank Holiday, bringing you International guest DJ Lee Dagger of Bimbo Jones. We look for the lowdown from the steaming hot remix and production team…

Has Bimbo Jones always had the same line up [Lee Dagger, Marc JB and vocalist Katherine Ellis]?

Bimbo Jones was born in 2001/2 when I (Lee Dagger) decided to give up my day job. I found Marc, a jazz pianist, and the rest is history! We started to write with Emma Bunton and Lisa Scott Lee. We found Katherine, a chemistry formed and the hits started flooding out.

You are prolific – do you work fast?

Some days we write, produce and record vocals to a song in a day. Other times it can take longer – it can be like fast food – but you gotta make sure you have some healthy ingredients!

With over seventy club chart number 1s and a discography of around 200 remixes, which three jobs stand out as most memorable?

Pink – Sober, Lady Gaga – Bad Romance, Britney – Piece Of Me… AND number 4 (sorry!) Rihanna – Diamonds. When you listen to the original of the same songs and then hear our productions you can really hear the difference.

Tell us about the new album?

The album is called GO NAKED! Look out for five songs on the album with Katherine. We also have Cyndi Lauper, Sergio Mendes, Bam (Jungle Bros), Ida Corr, Angie Brown, Kristine W, Beverley Knight, Blake Lewis, and Cyko Logic.

What can we expect to hear at your Bakebox gig?

Expect a mélange of grooviness! I will have some new tracks from the album to play, new remixes plus some new Lee Dagger debut album tracks to play. I have been writing with Crystal Waters, Inaya Day, MC Lyte, Leo Sayer, Kristine W, Jade Starling, Freedah Soul, Audrey Valorzi, Laura Larue and more!

Why do you think smaller venues like Bakebox are so important?

I love all gigs. In March I was asked to play at Sydney Mardi Gras for the third time DJing to 17,000 people, then last week in Inverness I DJ’d to 250 people. I don’t care what size so long as I get them dancing and interacting with the crowd!
