THE CLAPHAM STREET CREW

The Clapham Street Party returns this Saturday 22nd June! For all you newcomers to the scene, here’s a guide to what to expect…

Every year, Edgeley Road, off Clapham High Street, closes for the partying pleasure of the Clapham queers and their friends from further afield. On Saturday 22nd June, there’ll be more tight denim shorts and white vests than you can shake one of Sandra’s dildos at.

And every single year this events gets packed out with more hot gay men and we’ve never been disappointed by it…

There’s something for everyone: multiple bars selling drinks (where you’ll find most of the QX office); stands selling burgers and hot dogs (as if); a cabaret stage for the musical loving queens, and DJs spinning out tunes for those who really want to party.

The list of cabaret acts on the line-up is ridiculously good; anyone and everyone from the world of big hair and glittery dresses are making an appearance.

Surprisingly, Sandra will be making a rare appearance in Clapham (not the Common cruising grounds this time) to host the cabaret stage, where Lonnie Gordon, Jaki Graham, Katherine Ellis, JacquiI Cann and Danny Hilton will be taking to the mic and stunning us with their vocal abilities. Cabaret drag legends include Lola Lasagne, Baga Chipz and Tanya Hyde, Kelly Mild and Son of a Tutu.

If you wanna say hello to the QX team, we’ll probably be downing shots with Glendora by the bar, either falling in a bush in a Glendora tangle or shamelessly hunting down a man we can drag to Eagle after-party, Club R18 or chucking shapes in the big club room at the Two Brewers!

Two of the event sponsors are ManHunt (something we’ll be on) and Esmale, so expect some sexy giveaways – maybe something we can use with the men we find.

Owner of Kazbar, Craig Maritza, tells us it’ll be the best one yet and his manager, Carl Rogers, and Event Director, Denny Gallagher, have been hard at work ensuring this will be the biggest and best thing the gays of Clapham have ever seen. And QX have witnessed the Clapham Street Party get more amazing each year, so we can’t wait!

The After Parties
The outdoor event goes on until 9.30pm,  and then you’ve got a choice of three after parties:

Kazbar: 50 Clapham High Street, SW4 7UL
At Kazbar, Sonique will be heading the DJ line-up, that includes Pier Morrocco and ‘Lil Rob, playing music until 3am. Also, expect some live PAs from the main stage performers, including Jacquii Cann and Katherine Ellis.

Two Brewers : 114 Clapham High Street, SW4 7UJ
The Brewers will have its usual two floors of fun and music, but they’ll also have Prescott Place closed off (the road next to it), for the partygoers to continue on outside.

Eagle London: 349 Kennington Lane, Vauxhall, SE11 5QY
The daytime is a community event, so you horny folk need to keep the dong inside the thong, but if you need a release the official ‘dirty after-party’ is R18 at Eagle London. So if you wanna get your rocks off, please wait until then – you hear that Sandra?

• Clapham Street Party is on Saturday 22nd June from 1pm. Entrance next to Kazbar, 50 Clapham High Street, SW4 7UL.

• It’s only £4 to get in, with £1 of that going to GMFA and a charity of Lambeth Council’s choice. Which is an absolute bargain for all that entertainment. However, if you’ve been to a popular gay event you know how the queues can get, so advance, Q-jump tickets are available for £20 (from www.ticketsource.co.uk/date/63928) and that includes two free drinks and a separate ‘express lane’ entrance.
