Miss Jason invites you and all your friends to join her and her cabaret friends, including Charlie Hides and Sandra, for a weekend of high camp in Eastbourne. Apparently Eastbourne will have never seen anything like it. We called up Miss Jason for a chinwag and to find out more…
So what’s the Miss Jason experience all about?
It’s the highest of camp. The campest you could possibly get. My mission in life is to introduce camp everywhere, so everyone can have a nice time. That’s the idea of the Big Weekender Bender, you see. We thought we’d get everyone together and have a good old time.
So that’s the idea behind it?
Yes. It’s also just before I go away for panto in November – I’m in Woking this year. And when I’m back I go on holiday to Thailand for a few months, so this is the last time I’m on the scene for quite a while – other than NYE at the Brewers – so it’s like my goodbye party too.
How do you describe your act to the uninitiated?
It’s traditional drag, lots of songs and more comedy. It’s old-fashioned high camp, love. I work very much with the audience, getting them involved. Miss Jason is like the embarrassing auntie that we all have. She turns up to the family weddings and parties already drunk, says all the things she shouldn’t and tries it on with all the men.
Who else is at the Big Weekender Bender?
Kandy Kane, Kevin Cruise, Sandra, Titti La Camp, Tammy Twinkle, Sally Vate and obviously I’m hosting the whole event.
Do you have any saucy secrets about your fellow performers?
No but I will have by the end of the week.
Are all the cabaret stars staying in the hotel too?
Yes everyone who is performing on each night will have a room in the hotel. The fact we’re a bunch of queens staying in a hotel in Eastbourne, that wouldn’t normally cater to us, is so camp. The staff will never have experienced seventy odd queens and all this cabaret before. It’s going to be outrageous dear. Eastbourne will have never seen anything like it.
And what will you be drinking?
I will be drinking anything that comes my way, dear. A large anything.
