The Meat That Fell 2 Earth

When TheMenWhoFell2Earth met The Meat Boys East-side with a party in mind, this is what played out!

TheMenWhoFell2Earth interview The Meat Boys

TheMenWhoFell2Earth: Sum up the story of ‘Meat’ the zine and the Meat Boys in two short sentences.

The Meat Boys: It’s the story of a northern soul and a ginger boy who speaks funny. It’s hot beats and hot blokes, pinup pictures and wild parties in South London.

We’ve been known for years as a DJ duo. Is having two of you in the box a blessing or a curse? What’s the best and worst thing about it?

Fannar: Well it allows one of us to nip off for a fag.

A: It’s a blessing all the way… We party that box down. The worst thing? The shade Fannar throws when I play something he hates.

Tell us your two favourite records by a duo.

F: Daft Punk, ’Da Funk’.

A:  I would have thought ‘Islands in the Stream’ by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton is a no brainer.

What are the best and worst records each of you plays?

F: Best is Monie Love’s ‘Grandpa’s Party’. It’s cheesy vintage rap at its best. Worst is Lilly Allen’s ‘L8 CMMR’. Do I need to say anything else?

A: Harsh. I like it when Fannar plays The Chemical Brothers mix of Kylie Minogue’s ‘Slow’ and ‘You Can’t Run From My Love’ by Munk ft. Peaches. I don’t think he plays any bad tunes.

What’s the worst duo collaboration of all time?

A: Britney Spears & Madonna, ‘Me Against the Music’ makes me shudder.

F: Milli Vanilli ‘Girl You Know It’s True’. Gurl it’s true this is terrible.

Tell us what The Meat Boys are bringing to The Bloc?

People always ask us about our vibe and we only have one word – mdmazing.

 The Meat Boys interview TheMenWhoFell2Earth

The Meat Boys: Sum up TheMenWhoFellToEarth in two words each.

D: Wonky Disco.

T:  Naughty Outing.

What is the best and what is the worst gig you’ve ever played together?

Best? Last month’s Secret Garden Party with Clayton and the equally ace ‘n’ fierce Little Gay Brother crew was up there with the best of ‘em. Super cute festival and an ace crowd where that whole mixed/gay boundary gets blurred and people just get involved. We’ll also never get over standing in for the legendary Readers Wifes on their once a year Saturday night off at Duckie. Bad? Move onto the next one!

As a duo do you share the same taste in music and do you battle over certain songs?

T: It was music that got us together in the first place, so we have very similar tastes in some things but not in others. But over the years we’ve learned that half that charm is one of us throwing in something the other won’t expect and seeing where it goes.

D: As Morrissey said “in our different ways we are the same”.

How do you pick the clubs who take over Room 2 at TheMenWhoFell2Earth?

Mostly over a very late night drink at an even later bar. New clubs are always popping up and you tend to run into everyone behind them somewhere or another. We always look for a party that will bring something into the mix, but most importantly, they’ve gotta have the right attitude and be in it for the right reasons – you can just tell. We booked The Meat Boys on the stairs at East Bloc and confirmed it in the garden at The Eagle! Perfectly old school!

TheMenWhoFell2Earth featuring The Meat Boys are at East Bloc (217 City Road, Shoreditch, EC1V 1JN) on Saturday 23rd August, 10.30pm-6am.
