#JULIASAYS – Discerning scene musings of the princess of East London!

This month, we celebrate all manner of things! Most importantly, LGBTQ History Month. Keep your finger on the pulse for all kinds of events going on. Also check into The Queer Bible it’s a major site devoted to queer history founded by Jack Guinness. London Fashion Week starts up mid February for those of you looking for a look! And of course, let us not forget Valentine’s Day, which somehow usually eclipses me!

London Fashion Week

Fashion designer and artist Claire Barrow unleashes a one-off event ahead of London Fashion Week. Make It Last Forever ~ Punk Prom at Emily’s Bar, 79 Stoke Newington Road on Friday 9th February. All the performers will be dressed by her! DJs Gross Mary and 2Shin, performers Klein, Violence, Bip Ling and Liv Fontaine, 9pm till 3am.

SISSY SCUM: the first retching at VFD Friday 9th Feb presents a new night of live art performance… a ‘performance party’ you might say. Starring Kevin Le Grand, Edythe Wolley, ShayShay and John Smith, who will be ‘causing chaos with queer bile’. 10pm till 3am.

A night with a theme now, DEEP TRASH:Romance tackles Valentine’s Day with a subversive twist at the Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club on Saturday 10th February. Promising all sorts of goings on, with heaps of performance, art and music, this cult night is for you if want to stretch your imagination! From 8pm till 2am.

Homostash present the 12th TUC LGBT History Month UK at Five Miles, 39b Markfield Road N15. 10pm till 4am on Saturday 10th. Catch this official 12th annual party for a diverse evening hosted by Mark T Cox and Lulu Love, who is also performing. DJ’s Chaka Khan’t, Tafkanik, Pavliné and Anahita Shamsaei. Plus a film screening of Nick Finegan’s ‘Paradise Special’.

Princess Julia LOVES ft. Natalie Geographik! My regular Sunday evening at The Glory where from 7pm I hold court. On the 11th February my special guest Natalie will be performing a thought provoking show and easing you into the week ahead!

On Monday 12th Sketch-Sesh returns for a run this month, taking place in The Glory’s basement venue. Hosted by artists James Davison and Simon Grey, it’s one of my fave things to do during the week. Always fab models and sets… Pens and paper supplied and at the ready! 7pm till 9pm. If you fancy this and can’t make this one there’s another one on the 19th February! 

Meanwhile catch club night Glitterbox, whose exhibition includes the archive work of artist Mark Wardel and unseen photographs celebrating 5 years of said night. It’s on from the 14th to 18th February at the Jealous Gallery, 53 Curtain Road in Shoreditch, opening hours 11am to 7pm.

Something special for romance addicts; Maybe Be My Baby – Valentine’s Queer Speed Dating is at Dalston Superstore on Wednesday 14th. Hosted by Just May and ShayShay, it’s going to be a very jolly evening and perhaps you’ll find your love match! 7pm till 10pm, what a hoot!
