QX Recommends: The Orange Nation Podcast

Big gay beats for ya nerve!

Podcasts are very IN at the moment. We can happily while away hours listening to episodes of Desert Island Discs or some true crime jaunt that everyone listens to obsessively for a fortnight. At the moment, we love St Vincent’s Mixtape Delivery Service; basically someone rings in with a problem in their life and then St Vincent picks some songs for them about that particular issue. The problem is all of the aforementioned are a bit twee and safe. Know what we mean? A passive, polite-studio-audience-laughter level of enjoyment to wash over you on the tube journey hone. Sometimes you need something with a bit more OOMPH.

That’s where the haouse-hounds of Orange Nation deliver. The team behind Vauxhall’s weekend-losing schedule of nights, that starts on Friday at A:M, continues through Saturday at Beyond, before completely disregarding the end of the weekend with Orange, invite some of their riotous roster of DJs to lay down hour-long sets for you to listen to when you get a midweek craving. So, just for example, you could relive James Bartlett’s tech house set from Beyond Noir while you’re on the cross trainer, or some of Tony Bruno’s filthy dark room beats from Sex Circus while you descale the bathroom taps. Whatever you’re doing, liven it up with a slab of that trademark Orange Nation sound!

You can download episodes from podomatic.com, where it regularly ranks in the top ten in the music chart, or alternatively, hear their DJs do their thing live in amongst a crowd of hundreds of topless men at their Beyond Carnival 12 hour special on Saturday 31st March.
