Ripley’s Hot Takes!

The queen of political lip-sync satire on the UK queer scene right now is one of Scotland’s finest drag export in recent years, Ripley.

Ahead of her first stint at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year she’ll be previewing an all new show, Like a Sturgeon: Fake News, at the RVT. But what does the man behind the Sturgeon power-suit think of the female politicians he bases his shows around?

Calum Ross shared his scolding hot takes with Jason Reid this week…

Ruth Davidson

Quick! Pass the smelling salts to left-wing Twitter, it’s a queer Tory. Ruth is a trained killer, a pregnant lesbian and a woman of faith, which is all very complicated and probably very triggering too. I can’t wait to see how Alexis St. Clair is going to portray her in my new show.

Mhairi Black

I think Mhairi is the future of Scottish politics. She’s also the first MP in history to say cunt six times in the House of Commons. And she’s probably the first MP to be caught on camera saying ‘you talk shite, hen’. I bet she’d be a radge on a night out in Govan.

Nicola Sturgeon

‘MON THE STURGEON! Nicola is the mother of dragons, queen of the north, breaker of chains, and bringer of baby boxes. I’m still determined for her to come to the show, hopefully she’ll pop in during my run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival #shamelessselfpromotion.

Theresa May

Theresa May is the first Prime Minister to have watched an episode of The Simpsons and thought Mr Burns is a prime example of a good leader. She has all the personality of… I can’t even think of anything because she’s got that little personality.

Ripley’s Like a Sturgeon: Fake News is at The Royal Vauxhall Tavern on Friday 15th June.
