We all know the gay community has a serious race problem. Grindr is littered with racially charged profiles excluding potential hook-ups based on their ethnicity. The line is very fuzzy between sexual preferences and prejudice. What you might not know is that they don’t necessarily practice what they preach.
Surprisingly, the trend doesn’t seem to be the same when it comes to online porn. In statistics released by PornHub it looks as though diversity is championing statistics within gay porn. Back in 2017 the top two most searched for terms worldwide were ‘Japanese’ and ‘Korean’. Over in the US ‘Asian’ was the most searched term in a couple of states, including California and Come on you sexy asians!
Following closely behind was ‘Black’ as the 5th most searched for term, with the token ‘straight guy’-based searches taking third and fourth place. ‘Black’ was actually the most viewed gay category on Pornhub last year!
Of course, the fact that these need to be their own categories means that there is still some work to be done. And there’s always that troubling issue of fetishising race…yikes. But that very problematic aspect aside, maybe the politicians have it all wrong – Porn is how we’re going to become an inclusive society! Let’s wank our way to racial equality!
