#JULIASAYS – Discerning scene musings from the princess of East London!

It’s impossible to go to everything isn’t it…believe you me, I’ve tried! But sometimes you just have to prioritise and even take some time out for a holiday. Thing is, there are just so many great things going on in town that I often get caught up in the excitement of it all.

This Thursday 26th at The Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club, it’s the final showing of David Hoyle’s show run, Gymnasium. Taking us through the highs and lows of the human condition, David tackles the challenges of being human in the gymnasium of life with his inspiring line of enquiry, with special guests and all sorts! Doors 8pm.

Drag is everywhere and our fave drag kings at BOiBOX present Crafty Sods! on 26th July at She Soho, 23a Od Compton Street. Adam All and Oedipussi host an evening embracing all things challenging your craft talents…indeed, they encourage all crafts from knitting to sound engineering, choreography and even sequins. So get your glue gun out and create a look, or get your tap shoes out and create a dance routine! Doors 7pm, showtime 8pm. Artist Max Ryder will also be in attendance, lending their creative talents!

More discerning music action at Soul Attic this July with special guest DJ Ian Jackson on Thursday 26th at Farr’s School of Dancing from 9pm to midnight. Fred Mann and Ronnie King play Northern Soul at this free entry hidden gem of an evening.

Hotting up for the Edinburgh Festival, catch a preview double bill at The Glory on Friday 27th July. La JohnJoseph and Jasper Red are honing their skills with new queer theatre pieces. At 7pm catch Jasper perform ‘Press Play’ and then at 8:15pm, La JohnJoseph will perform ‘A Generous Lover’. The night goes on till 10pm, when The Glory presents Trashed with Miss Taylor Trash till 2am. Shows, drag shenanigans and competitions from Taylor Trash, Cassandra, Knockout and floor host Chase. Music from DJs Big G and Michael Kelly.

On Friday night it’s Clash Bash no.5 ~ Splish Splash at Dalston Superstore where the beauteous Finn Love takes to the bar and stunners High Wasted consisting of ShayShay, Sophie Brain and Holly Styrene, the most superest of super bands, perform the night away from 9pm till 3pm. Pretend you’re going to the beach and switch it up with a dash of clash!

Then on Saturday night, return to Superstore for Meat! It’s a tip top line up, with DJs The Meat Boys, A Man To Pet and Jeffrey Hinton playing the bar and downstairs Nic Fischer, Jaye Ward and Fannar. Show appreciation for the go-go boys on the bar and say happy birthday to the sexy Fannar in the basement till 3am!

Coming up APPLE TREE – The Live Lounge – Vol. 2 on Thursday 2nd August at the Miranda, Ace Hotel. For a fiver, catch a night of emerging talent from 6pm till 10pm at this basement venue with snacks curated by Hoi Polloi, a buzzing atmosphere full of expectation and a night of live music and performance from LGBTQIA+ artists.
