10s Across The Board

RuPaul’s latest queens stunned and stunted at The Grand last week

Make way for the stars of Season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. There was a buzz in the air as the crowd clambered to get themselves to the front row. The super fans and casual lovers of the show turned up in their hundreds to get a glimpse of this year’s top drag talent. All of the sudden, the lights dimmed and a countdown began onstage. Three. Two. One.

Hosts Danny Beard and Victoria Secret took to the stage to get the crowd revved up to be witness to drag royalty’s latest inductees. But, not before the warm up act take to the stage to get the joint feeling nice and loose, whetting the appetite for some dragery. A special shout out to Joe Black whose haunting rendition of ‘When I’m Cleaning Windows’, is sure to keep us up at night… these local queens educated an audience of Drag Race obsessed drag fans that there is an insane amount of talent right on their doorsteps.

Then, IT WAS TIME. In a very Rocky-esque intro, the top three queens took to the stage in boxing gear, ready to slay the audiences. They didn’t pull any punches. They made it clear that, much like their fellow season 10 queen Vixen, they were here to FIGHT.  Winner Aquaria performed New York, New York in her stunning American red outfit, because serving looks, stunting pretty, she’s the bitch from where? Asia O’Hara relived the trauma that was her finale lip-sync by bringing butterfly backup dancers to the stage, before giving the children all the Whitney Houston they could handle. Also, friend of QX Yuhua Hamasaki took the opportunity to politely inform her audience that she was the true winner of the season. Okay, if you say so… On a side note, the backup dancer with the washboard abs and just the right amount of body hair, are you free for a private dance at the QX offices any time soon..?

An insane night of gorgeous and bombastic performances, it was like a drag wet dream. When the house lights were raised, and the performance was over, we left feeling exhilarated and thoroughly entertained. Good job girls.
