A quarter of gays lie about their age to get laid…

queer bar in East London.

Are you one of those people who’ll shave off a couple of years in order to get that guy over for some mid-week misbehaving? Well a new survey revels that you’re not alone, with a quarter of men admitting that they’ve lied about their age when hooking up with a guy.

We’re not here to judge. It’s true that 38 feels like it’s nowhere near 40, and 47 is basically the new 35 so why wouldn’t you! That skinny twink down the road isn’t coming over if he knows you’re as old as his dad… Oh who are we kidding, that’s exactly how you’re going to get him over. Gay men and their relationship to age and ageing is an interesting one, being both celebrated and demonised. A new survey by Gay Star News shed some light on the issue.

They asked over 3,000 people to fill out a survey on ageing in the gay community, 35% of those who filled the survey were retired and the other 65% were working age. A quarter of those asked admitted they had lied about their age when meeting a new partner at least once

Then those who weren’t retired were asked if they lied during a hook-up and 12% of them would always lie about their age, and only 35% would be totally honest. Then on dates they revealed that 6% of them would always lie about their age, with 39% always being honest meaning that they were more likely to be honest in person, which is sort of… sweet?

Then those figures climbed when those who had retired, and they were far more honest. 42% of them always told the truth during a hook up, with again 12% of them always lying during a hook up. Then on dates the figures were a little more complicated, with 48% (almost half) always tell the truth BUT 7% always lie on dates.

Then in more general questions, 60% of them revealed that their experience of dating was ‘totally’ ageist. Only 0.9% of them felt that gay dating wasn’t ageist at all

The study was conducted for the inaugural LGBTI Founders’ Day which takes place on the 24th of September, 2018.
