Frat bros love kissing other frat bros, study finds

Those frat guy porn sites seem to be on to something. It appears as though kissing isn’t just a hazing thing for pledges, but some frat bros are really into kissing each other.

In a study published in Sexuality & Culture, college guys in the US who identified as straight, especially those belonging to a fraternity, really enjoy making out with each other. Us gays have known how lovely kissing boys can be, so it was only a matter of time before those straight guys caught on.

There were nearly 450 straight men that took part in the study, from 11 different universities across the United States. The researches also conducted in-depth interviews with 75 men, who all identified as heterosexual.

They were asked questions such as:

How many different male friends have you kissed on the cheek?

How many times have you made out with another man?

How many different straight men have you cuddled on the sofa or spooned with in bed for more than 5 minutes?

How many men have you made out with out of experimentation, your own sexual desire, or in a threesome?

In total, how many different male friends have you kissed on the lips?

The study found that 40% of the study group had reported kissing another guy on the cheek, with 10% reporting having kissed on the lips. Sometimes alcohol played a role in the make out sessions, sometimes it didn’t.

One guy that was taking part in the study stated:

“A few of the guys in the frat have been known to kiss each other when drunk, it’s become pretty normal now, we all know who the kissers are!”

Those questioned about the behaviour explained that they don’t consider kissing to be a sexual behaviour, which is interesting.  A sentiment summed up by one participant who shared:

“I kiss [my friend] because I love him,  I’m not attracted to him like that, but I do love him.”

The study also found that guys with more favourable attitudes towards gay men were more likely to make out with other guys, which is great news for any openly gay students out there crushing on their straight friends.

They concluded the study by finding that “same-sex kissing between men is a behaviour that can be engaged in while maintaining a heterosexual identity at these universities”. Much like the straight guys you find trolling Grindr…
