21/10/11: The hottest new double act to hit the scene, Bette Rinse and Mary Mac, lit up the 79CXR stage last Friday with a special ‘Rinse out your haggis’ show, for manager Michael’s birthday.

I arrived to a bar rammed full of cheer and celebration, with barely space to swing my clutch bag. I noshed a few cheesy baps from the buffet and settled down for the show. Bette’s comedic hilarity and Mary’s big, ballsy vocals were the perfect marriage to get the late night revellers really in the party mood.

We were treated to a show of amazing variety, from a camp old rendition of ‘It’s raining men’, to a performance of ‘The Phantom of the opera’ which saw Bette emerge from the staircase only to rip off her mask and wig halfway through exclaiming “It’s like the fucking sweatbox in here dear” (classic Bette).

Mary Mac followed with a stunning performance of  ‘This is my life’, Shirley Bassey. Birthday boy Michael was then serenaded, in Marilyn Monroe fashion, by the duo, with the show finishing off on a medley of the pairs favourite tunes, a dramatic encore and a few cheeky shots.

The girls will be back at 79CXR every Thursday from 17th November in their new weekly residency.
