79CXR KARAOKE FINAL

79CXR KARAOKE FINAL

Posted on July 10, 2011

10/07/11: Charing Cross Road was the scene for much frenzied activity as 79CXR played host to the grand final of Bette Rinse’s Prize Karaoke contest last Sunday. The culmination of six weeks of fierce competition reached its dizzying climax with a live sing-off, judged by a top scene-celeb panel comprising Drag Idol 2008 superstar Tanya Hyde and up’n’at-yer Glasgow gal Mary Mac, not to mention husband-of-the-hostess, James. QX arrived as the proceedings were in full flow with the legendary Bette presiding over a line up of warblers, wannabes and well-tuned talent eager to perform for a West End crowd in the heart of London’s Theatreland (ooh the next stop could be Les Mis’ or Chicago!). But with plain talking feedback from the judges and an array of crooners hoping to scoop the first prize of £300 in cash, stealing the title was no easy task. Our faves included Michael C performing ‘Razzle Dazzle’ and Amir’s take on ‘My Way’. But it was angelic young thing Jamie’s faultless rendition of ‘You Are Not Alone’ that nailed it for the panel, and had the audience singing along in appreciation – well done Jamie, you deserved to win!
