09/07/11: The white Swan is somewhat of an East End institution and if last Saturday was anything to go on, it’s easy to see why. Revered by those who frequent it and too easily overlooked by those who have never been, it really does have a lot to offer. Recently there have been a lot of gay venues opening in the East and there is quite a scene building up, but where else in East London do you find the genuine integration of old time cockney lads with the high fashion East London hipsters? This really is a place that promotes multiculturalism! Sandra dealt with multiculturalism, race and sexuality expertly in the evening’s entertainment. Her close-to-the-bone comedy and singing act got the crowd both in stitches and throwing shapes in equal measure. The crowd, it would seem, are exceptionally friendly and unselfconscious. On the packed dance floor there were some pretty awesome dance moves and with a massive, beautifully decked out beer garden out the back, there is ample space to chill out and have a good chat. Look out for upcoming act ‘Drag With No Name’ and the regular amateur strip contest on Wednesday nights.
