29/11/13: Soho’s hottest corner just got a lil’ hotter with an appearance by his Highness Prince George. No, not that spoiled brat, the REAL one – none other than Boy George himself graced the decks at Rupert Street for a night of recognizable house disco beats fused with electro rhythms.
We were welcomed at the door with a grin and a porn star martini by the charming muscular duet of Jon and Kael, partners who’ve become club ambassadors in their black bow ties and pearly whites meeting and greeting the punters at the door adding an extra bit of sexy to the night, which included a memorable set by DJ Rich B keeping the music flowing after Boy George.
Dressed in his trademark oversized hat, the funk was definitely deep as he mixed it up for a crowd packed nuts to butts with fans of all genders and decades dancing and straining to catch a glimpse of the man himself on stage as he kissed, waved and spun tracks to the delighted throngs stretching out onto the street.
“I just love Boy George!” gushed Fortuna Mailitini of Abruzo, Italy who came all the way to London to see him. “He is just who he is and is in such a good place now.” As for her first time in a gay bar: “Rupert Street is fantastico—great club, great service and Boy George, too! Incredible!”
