CENTRAL STATION 20TH BIRTHDAY
Posted on February 8, 2012
04/02/12: London’s weekend blizzard proved no match for a rollicking crowd of bent boozers as QX donned our snowshoes for an epic trudge across the frozen King’s Cross tundra to Central Station’s 20th birthday bash last Saturday.
Two decades is a mighty long time in gay years, and this no nonsense homo-hangout has long been a North London beacon, providing a loyal crowd of regulars with near-unrivalled hospitality, some of the most raucous cabaret in town, as well as one of the most varied fetish calendars to be found anywhere in the capital in its Underground Club.
To mark the auspicious occasion, manager Simon and the always-at-the-ready Central Station bar crew packed in the punters for a fun-filled birthday bonanza that saw the lads feasting on Cava and canapés whilst catching up on the latest NW1 gossip – and believe us, there’s plenty to be had.
Meanwhile, none other than drag superstar, Lola Lasagna, regaled the crowd with showtunes and Central Station tales of old that had us remembering the good ol’ days when a pint and a packet of pork scratchings cost two and sixpence and a young male working boy could be obliged for half a crown.
And with the onstage high jinks out of the way, the party shifted to the downstairs club space for dazzling dancefloor sounds from DJ Stevo as the anniversary antics carried on ‘til the small hours. Central Station is open seven days a week for cabaret, comedy, karaoke, cruising, fetish theme-nights and more!
