CENTRAL STATION
Posted on December 18, 2011
18/12/11: On a cold winter’s evening there is nothing better than snuggling up in front of a log fire with friends and a bottle of wine, so on Sunday we headed up to Central Station to do just that.
We were pleasantly surprised that Sunday is also lovely Neil’s karaoke (our choice of adjective not his own PR!) and this crowd of surprisingly good singers were not afraid to branch out from the usual commercial karaoke fodder, and also tackled the genres of rock (Patti Smith’s ‘Because The Night’) and ballad (Tony Christie’s ‘Avenues And Alleyways’).
An interesting version of ‘Love Is All Around’ saw the crooner adding whoops and jeers in the most inappropriate places – hugely entertaining – whereas Matthew’s rendition (a face we recognise from the Quebec’s karaoke) of Adele was hauntingly beautiful and had the crowd spellbound.
There is more karaoke every Sunday night and Central Station is open every day right through Christmas and New Year with the irrepressible Dave Lynn providing the New Year’s Eve entertainment.
