CITY OF QUEBEC
Posted on January 21, 2012
21/01/12: The City of Quebec is one of our favourite Sunday night haunts, and not just for the top cabaret they have every week.
For a change, last week we popped along on Saturday to kick off our night out. From the warm welcome by Adrian and Dennis (aka Laurel and Hardy) on the door, to the polite and attentive bar staff, everything about the Quebec is relaxed, non-threatening and fun, which is why even as one of the oldest gay pubs in London, it is still packed and buzzing every weekend.
Guv’nor James runs a tight ship, is constantly mixing on both sides of the bar and knows most of the regulars by name, and with straight couples and lesbians welcome too, it’s a friendly and social crowd.
Downstairs, DJ TroJo was spinning dance classics and commercial tracks, the dance floor was packed and the low ceiling gave me nostalgic flash backs to my first gay club in Torquay in the 80s. In an age of lasers, loud music and moody lighting, the Quebec is a traditional pub that does what it says on the tip. Perfect.
