COMPTONS OF SOHO

08/02/13: The Grand Old Dame of Soho celebrated 26 action-packed years on the scene, as QX headed to Old Compton Street for the start of a fun-filled birthday weekend at Compton’s last Friday.

A gangster-themed party saw manager Neil Hodgson and his guys ‘n’ dolls all dressed up like Al Capone in twenties Chicago for two nights of extended opening ‘til 2am, taking in corking DJ sounds, no end of crowd hysteria and a whole lot more.

Happily, the mob motif didn’t go as far as instigating a prohibition-style ban on the good stuff, with free shots all around, not to mention complimentary nibbles that kept us satisfied through ‘til supper time.

Upstairs, and in keeping with the spirit of things, there were jazzy standards galore on the grand piano, with a friendly Friday night throng keeping the atmosphere buzzing right up to closing time.

Meanwhile, the bustling ground floor bar got boisterous for top class dance tunes and decent drinks prices as the Comptons clientele made the most of those extra hours. Comptons, where would we be without you?  Here’s to many more birthdays to come!
