DUKE OF WELLINGTON’S 10TH BIRTHDAY

30/09/11: The West End went alfresco for an unseasonably sweltering October Saturday evening as QX made a beeline for the Duke of Wellington last weekend.

Celebrating a whole decade at the heart of the Soho gay scene, The Welly seems to be more popular than ever these days, and with its prime location, friendly management and bar staff and traditional British boozer ambience, it’s not hard to see what keeps the punters coming back for more.

Manager Craig has been running the show since day one and, despite being rushed off his feet with the birthday crowds, still took time to make us feel welcome.

We may have missed the birthday strip show, but there was still plenty more to get excited about with live party tunes from DJ Mr Jones getting the boozy blokes jigging round their bar stools, whilst elsewhere, the Welly’s very own sexy shot boy dispensed anniversary tipples.

And with the soaring temperatures drawing the throng outside, we joined the proceedings, watching the West End go by over a refreshing and very reasonably priced pint.

Here’s to many more years at one of the best gay hangouts in town!
