EDGE 20TH BIRTHDAY

18/02/12: Picture it. Soho. February 1992. Kurt Cobain was riding the grunge wave to his doom, The Golden Girls were recording their last ever episode [salute], The Queen was just about to embark on her ‘Annus Horribilis’ and a new out ‘n’ proud gay bar was opening on the corner of Soho Square, soon to be frequented by the original generation of hardcore ravers, dropping by for their pre-gurnfest drinkage.

Flash forward twenty years and The Edge has expanded by at least two floors, looks sexier than ever and the hardcore ravers have gradually relocated to Sarf London, leaving Edge as the playground for people like me, who like to tipsily run around to commercial-leaning tuneage with a raft of barely clad gogo boys, hot Englishlads porn stars, a bevy of fit bar boys and pretty punters.

Being honest (I know, right, in QX of all places!) a few years back, The Edge wouldn’t have been our first destination when it came to drunken pulling and raucous partying, but the last few years has seen the four-floor bar really blossom and forge its own identity, and the new superlate license at weekends seems to have brought out the wild side to the once much more placid Edge Towers.

The boys were fit as fuck, the drags looked AMAZE, the music was on point (just the right Soho blend of pop and dance with a few Whitney tributes for good measure) and the atmosphere was fantastic.

Whatever you’re doing guys, keep at it and you can be sure that The Edge will be just as pumping in another twenty years time as it is today. Quite whether this reviewer will be is another story…
