09/05/12: Wednesday, 9pm. I popped into Halfway II Heaven, a venue I admit I’d never been to before.
The ground floor was packed with guys, and downstairs the rather camp and fabulous Glam Jam was taking place. The crowed was a mix of curious tourists, die-hard regulars and merry guys on their way home from work.
One was asleep at the bar. I touched his willy. Unlike my new friend, the rest of the crowed were ardently watching the cabaret girls on stage, led by CJ and Lady Imelda, with a cast of show’girls’.
There are sorrowful songs of ex-boyfriends and Easyjet (same thing), and camp banter in between. I LOL so hard that I’m dying to meet this Lady. She tells me they don’t get paid for rehearsals, therefore they don’t bother forward planning, and instead improvise with whatever takes their fancy on the night.
My new favourite drag queen, not even kidding, is Carol Stevens. She rocks up on the stage in a massive coat made of fairy lights – GaGa eat your heart out you drag queen wannabe, Liberace roll in your grave you jealous ol’ bitch – and belts out a number.
I LOL some more, book an Ad Lee, and go back home for tea and bed. It might be a Wednesday night, but Glam Jam has the spirit of a weekend in Las Vegas – get down there!
