Halfway II Heaven

04/10/14: Angel Rubio, guvnor of Halfway, gave us a fab drag double header on Saturday with not one but two acts new to the London scene.

The afternoon opened with the usual mayhem and skittle-bomb shenanigans that is Rose Garden’s weekly SwapShop before unleashing Bambi Boo, the winner of Bette Rinse’s recent ‘It’s A Knockout’ search for a star in her first live show, and at an hour long this was no soft launch but a full-on bells and whistles show with knobs on.

Singing, dancing, comedy, costume changes and audience participation, Bambi gave us the full English with all the trimmings, and it was delicious. If you missed it Bambi is back for a second serving this Saturday at 8.30pm.

As if that wasn’t enough, hailing from north of the border, Glasgow’s finest Nancy Clench stopped off to launch her London tour, fresh from her recent Edinburgh Fringe success where she sold out 5 of her 7 shows and received five star reviews.

With superb comic repartee and timing honed in stand-up clubs across the north, Nancy’s bareback-bareknuckle material touched more than once on fisting, sex, celebrity and everything in-between, interspersed with powerhouse vocals on numbers like ‘Proud Mary’ and I’m Telling You, and a carefully crafted and confident audience handling.

A superb show from a master of the mic who we will hopefully see more of on the southern circuit.
