14/02/14: It was Friday night. It was Valentine’s. And while that usually means pounding a number of glasses of rosé and watching old episodes of Sex And The City, or throwing on a teensie outfit and heading off to some tacky Anti-Valentines ball while listening to PCD’s ‘I Don’t Need A Man’, this year was different.
We may not have been much wiser, we certainly weren’t any less single, but we were definitely older; which meant a) we weren’t as bitter about being alone and b) the teensie outfits didn’t fit anymore.
Still, it’s probably for the best that we weren’t dragging around our (disco) ball and (daisy) chain that night, because if he’d seen the way we were ogling Ku’s sexy bar staff he’d have had something to say. But if there’s one thing better than a hot guy, it’s a hot guy that brings you drinks.
And it wasn’t just the buff bar boys that were done up (or should that be stripped down) for the occasion with red and white sashays across the bar setting the mood. But today wasn’t just Valentine’s, it was also Ku Bar’s 7th birthday! Shit, we’ve got pizza boxes under our bed older than that. Does that make Ku Bar a Ku Baby? Or are we just old as fuck? Whatever.
As usual, Ku Bar was busier than one of Florence Welsh’s outfits and after a few pre-drinks we decided to venture downstairs. We hadn’t seen this many twinks in a basement since the police raided Boy George’s house.
Naturally, we spent the evening cutting a rug to the commercial sounds that Ku is popular for. And when we got talking to a sexy stranger, the night wasn’t the only thing that was looking up.
Maybe Valentine’s didn’t suck balls after all. Well, until we returned from the toilet to find him draped over our mate like some flea market shawl. Standard. Still, couldn’t dent an amazing night though – happy birthday Ku, we hope you enjoyed it as much as us!
