KuBar

03/10/15: If there’s anywhere that epitomises the bright lights and long nights of Soho to a boy from rural Scotland, it’s KuBar and its sister club KuKlub, acting as cornerstone to Mecca, religious not bingo.

Drag queen DJs galore (you haven’t lived until you’ve seen Lady Lloyd in a Vivienne Westwood ‘top’ and a jock strap – who needs London Fashion Week?!). Even the non-drag DJ’s are something to look at – hello DJ Chris Brogan! Coming from a town where their idea of a gay night is a quiet bar full of office furniture with a jukebox (admittedly this facilitated mutual Jamelia – ‘Beware of the Dog’ appreciation sessions), KuKlub feels like you’ve stumbled into the proverbial sweet shop. The topless Adonises positively sparkle in the dark (think Angel from Buffy, rather than R-Patz from Twilight) and the dizzying mix of electro infused pop house music are enough to leave you feeling rather like Loreen after an energetic Eurovision performance, but not so exhausted that you can’t manage a rousing round of ‘Euphoria’ on the night bus home.
