RUPERT STREET 15TH BIRTHDAY BASH

23/07/11: It might not be a sweet 16, but Rupert Street Bar certainly know how to make their 15th birthday a big deal that’s hard to resist. To a clubbing virgin passing by, the festival-esque crowd outside would make him quiver; but for those of us with the dancing queen spirit, there’s a magnetic draw and addiction to head inside and be a part of the scene. Seeing as the sun is on a hiatus this Summer, the rebellion to the weather was a beach party theme. Like a kooky raid at Toys’R’Us, the venue was decked with blow up tropical trees galore. Think Katy Perry’s California Girls video, and then imagine her colourful and wacky-plastic dreamworld being injected into the décor. The barmen would have made Baywatch a far more appealing beach as well. Stubbled to perfection in their fancy dress [i.e. trunks and nothing else], shots were ‘drowning’ the clubbers in the hope they’d be rescued by these boys. The crowd was just as aesthetically pleasing, with a friendly vibe of guys and all ages. The perfect place to mingle with all trends and types, everyone felt like they had a VIP invite to the birthday bash. And for those who have a guilty pleasure and giddy reaction when spotting a celebrity, Hollyoaks and TV stars were dressed to impress there. Then not forgetting the all important music, it was an intoxicating mix of chart music with the tempo revved up for electric appeal. DJ Alessandro Londra gave the likes of Adele’s ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ the irresistible dancing edge to the hungry clubbers. The best birthday I’ve been to in a while.
