Sassy Saturdays

26/03/16: Already renowned across London for delicious grub and seriously dangerous cocktails, Counter has another string to its bow in the shape of Sassy Saturdays, an eclectic concoction of camp cabaret, live music and comedy.

Last weekend saw an Easter-inspired show hosted by the antipodean auteur Dusty Limits as Lucifer. Opening with Ute Lemper’s I Am A Vamp, the first guest was Ivy Paige as Mary Magdalene whose proclamation of ‘I shaved for Jesus’ lead straight in to a seductive rendition of Fever. Things then got decidedly hot under the collar with Phil In Gud’s Burlesque Jesus fan dance that left us assled in the face (that’s a tit tassel on the ass to any laymen). A brief interval to dry off lead in to act 2 with Ivy reincarnated as an Easter bunny girl for Toxic, Virgin Xtravaganzah channelling body and blood of Christ realness as The Blessed Virgin Mary and another dose of Jesus in a jockstrap with a hot sweaty workout strip climaxing in one lucky member of the audience getting a full face socking. Yes, socking is a thing now (©Dusty Limits). A quartet of versatile (not in the sexual sense), professional performers each at the top of their respective games made for a sparkling evening of cabaret capped with the most sublime cocktails in Vauxhall and a healthy dose of blasphemy. What more could you want on a Saturday evening?
