Soho Bars

31/12/13: There is a vile, vicious rumour on the scene that we here at QX Towers might like a little tipple, but pish and poppycock is our retort and anyway, we always have a slice of lime in our drink so it’s easily 2 of our 5-a-day!

Just to prove a point we set ourselves the challenge on New Year’s Eve of visiting as many of our favourite Soho watering holes as possible before Big Ben did his stuff at 12. Figuring a north to south route would maximise our in-bar time and minimise our fighting-thru-crowds time we kicked off proceedings at The Edge where the super cute bar staff had dressed to impress in black shirts and waistcoats, although we have to admit we would have preferred a little more flesh on display!

Pint sized hottie Chris Brogan was spinning the party tunes for a relaxed and mixed crowd and we just had time for a quick sherry with regular Jeremy before the iPhone alarm went off (we’re nothing if not organised in our bar crawls!) and we headed off to Circa where we found not 1 but 3 DJs – Kris di Angelis, Adam Turner and Sam DMS catering for a young and trendy posse of poofs and poofettes.

A hop and a skip later and we were at The Yard where the bar, courtyard and balcony were all packed then over the road to Rupert Street where Richie B was on the decks and bar staff were unified by dickie bows with lots of flesh on display.

Jo Public was working the butch boys at Comptons while some of the construction crew behind the bar looked more like Village People busting a move than labourers from a building site! G-A-Y Bar had a marathon 36 hour session and with free entry and cheap drinks offers was packed with cute young things from dusk til dawn.

Having reached the half way point in our evening we took a moment to reflect on how much we love Soho before diving headlong in to the two KU Bars, Frith Street and Lisle Street, where it was wall to wall commercial classics, sexy shirtless bar boys and super cute punters as only Ku does best.

Just around the corner, Manbar was in full swing with Chrissy Darling on the door and a packed line up of dancers and performers to entertain their masses and down the road at our last stop, Halfway 2 Heaven, CK (Crystal d’Canter and Kelly Mild) were holding court in a rammed Showbar downstairs, while guv’nor Angel was with the serious drinkers upstairs.

Time check 11.45pm, 10 bars done and right on schedule for our midnight rendezvous with X Factor winner Sam Bailey at G-A-Y. What a brilliant end to 2013 in some of our favourite bars and bumping in to many old and new friends.
