THE METRO DRAG RACE

18/08/12: Twenty five gender bending queens, kings and in-betweenies took to the streets of Greenwich on Saturday for the annual Metro Drag Race, at the Prince of Greenwich, hosted by the divine Dave Lynn.

Every imaginable style of drag lined up in the glorious sunshine, to compete for the coveted trophy. Ms Lynn, Lady La Rue, with her snake-like hips, local lass Helyn Bed and singer Phil Lawrence provided the alfresco, pre and post race entertainment, with everything from show tunes through to camp medleys.

The Mayor of Greenwich started the race, and after a frantic dash it was the comically named Philipa Flop who crossed the line first, through a haze of sky-high hair and outlandish get-ups! Prizes were also awarded for ‘Best Drag Queen’ – Chardonnay, and ‘Best Drag King’ – Semen James [guffaw].

Although the day, which was organised meticulously, was great fun, there was a very important goal – to raise money for local charity The Metro Centre, which works with communities most affected by HIV, whilst also promoting health and well-being through its services. We hope you raised a shedload of cash and we doth our caps to you guys for what you do.
