The Old Ship

16/08/15: 8.30 on a Summer Sunday evening and just as I thought that the weekend’s coming to an end I find an oasis of traditional east end entertainment at The Old Ship in Limehouse.

I’m met outside by the most down to earth DJ in London, Stevie T, and soon get introduced to Landlord John who proudly shows me the gorgeous refurbishments that he has made to this fab little venue.  The drinks are flowing and the chilled out East End crowd are eagerly anticipating tonight’s cabaret.

The locals all seem to know each other but give a friendly welcoming vibe to new faces… Stevie T announces that cabaret is about to begin and plays a last Nicki French remix before welcoming on stage ‘’The Goofy Old Tart’’ Saucy Sophie…

It’s half an hour into the show and Sophie hasn’t told her first gag yet because of the amazing rapport and banter that she has with the audience.

Sophie then picked up the pace and went into back-to-back innuendo “Carry On” Style jokes, delivering the best hour of stand-up I’ve heard in years. The adoring audience was hungry for more as the bell for last orders rang and Sophie left the stage to rapturous applause.
