VICTORIA – WORLD AIDS DAY FUNDRAISER

24/11/12: Apart from being home to a world famous dog track and a mediocre 90s boy band, Walthamstow also plays host to one of the most friendliest and fun boozers on our radar. And we usually end up in a rotten, incoherent heap of drag mess come closing time each time we visit.

The superb Brighton Belle and panto dame Lola Lasagne took up the mantle of host for their World Aids Day Party, raising money for local HIV charity Positive East. Enthusiastic new singer, PJ Taylor was one of the first ones up, treating us to a ‘memorable’ rendition of ‘She Bangs’ by Ricky Martin. Loving the ass wiggling, dear. The party tone had surely been set!

Performances followed by Lady Freida Feel (ending in a full strip?!?), a rather dishy singer of swing, Ralph, Adora Dix (looking absolutely sensational, like a walking diamanté), Alexis StClair and The Bear Did Lady, who showed us how to shove a big COKE up a tight ring [titters].

Drag Idol winner, La Voix, sent shivers down our spine and reverberations around the bar with her sensational vocals, which almost lifted the roof off the place. Ending her set with Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ really was quite a moment. Candy Slag in Drag was last up, looking like a gin-soaked cartoon character, and had the crowd screaming with laughter.

After churning out a few of her favourite parody numbers and trying to mount a banister, Candy handed the reins back to Lola and guv’nor Paul for the raffle which Lola added plenty of her trademark comedy to.

Over £800 was raised by the generous punters of the Victoria for Positive East and we applaud you and your wonderful staff. Thanks for a great night and another epic Sunday hangover!
