ROSE & CROWN DRAG RACE

20/08/11: The capital’s leading she-males lined-up for the biggest event in the tranny sporting calendar as central Greenwich drew to a stand-still for the annual Drag Race last Saturday. QX rocked a sophisticated diamante headband and disappearing-up-the-bum-crack hotpants look as a throng of spectators besieged the Rose & Crown in advance of the charity sprint – set to raise mountains of cash for South London LGBT sexual and mental health organisaton, The Metro Centre.

A star-studded itinerary of pre-race diversions included dazzling Irish drag stunna, Rose Garden, and pal, The Duchess, promoting healthy living and community cohesion through sport by chain smoking and ramping up an atmosphere of bitchy competitiveness over a thumping disco soundtrack.

Even the local bobbies got in on the action, holding back traffic to make way for a forthcoming deluge of hysterical, stampeding T-girls. But as the eager crowds spread out along the race circuit and QX touched up our lippy at the finish line, a formidable field of tranny talent took their places for the moment we’d all been waiting for.

We don’t know how those gals run so fast in Primark stiletto heels either but, just like an Olympic 100-metre final, the action was over in seconds amidst a flurry of fishnets and false eyelashes as the (alas, German – can’t they let us win anything?) victor stormed home in what surely must have been record time.

But we’re not bitter – congratulations to the winner and well done to everyone who took part for raising all those funds!
