SHADOW LOUNGE ‘MOULIN ROUGE’ PARTY

12/07/13: We knew it was going to be an extra-special night as soon as we saw the familiar entrance to Shadow Lounge transformed into the Moulin Rouge. And hell, it was her party and she’ll can-can if she wants to.

It’s hard to imagine Soho without Shadow Lounge. Opening in 2001, it was a year when Daft Punk were Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger and Kylie couldn’t get her smash hit Out Of Her Head. When we weren’t drooling over George Clooney in Ocean’s Eleven, however, we were venturing down the stairs into Soho’s newest member’s club.

Twelve years on and that well-trodden staircase is still promising a night of glamour, cocktails and a chance to dress to impress. After a couple of pre-parties during the week, Shadow Lounge’s 12th birthday party blew out its candles on Friday night with a flourish. The Moulin Rouge theme saw can-can girls and hot boys with bums tighter than Nicole Kidman’s forehead.

Those who couldn’t wait to play musical chairs entered at 6pm but the night truly got underway after dark with DJs Allesandro, Nikos Tsouris and Riano playing until the early hours. The sweltering hot day gave the perfect excuse for an extra bit of skin on show, and we’re sure we may have spotted a celebrity or two behind the velvet ropes.

Despite the Parisian flair and beaux hommes, there was no mistaking that Shadow Lounge remains an unmistakably London institution. Happy birthday guys!
