The Old Ship

23/03/14: There’s no better way to end a trashy weekend and prepare for the onslaught of the tedious working week than hanging out with some beautiful people and laughing at some top class cabaret until our Tena Men almost explodes.

So that’s exactly what we did. Nestled away in Limehouse village (yes that’s what we’re calling it now, so get used to it) is The Old Ship, which last Sunday was brimming at the seams with gays of all ages, all up for a good time.

This week, the pub opened up its stage to the utterly bonkers and supremely talented Drag With No Name, backed by the always smiley DJ Stevie Tee. There was even a free buffet! And even though we only suck on the odd stalk of cress every third Tuesday, it was nice to see an effort made.

Starting his show with Robbie Williams’ ‘Let Me Entertain You’ was rather apt really, because boy did he deliver on that promise! This is a queen at the top of his game. A super-energetic set followed, with lightning quick costume changes, which included parodies-galore, magic, fine vocals and… Egg throwing! The highlight of the night was the truly inspired Kerry Katona skit.

We howled at the ‘This Morning’ section. On point, clever comedy. Are you getting the gist that we really liked it? As fellow cabaret performer, Son ofa Tutu, who was in the audience, said: “Pure brilliance.” And the line of the night? “You can now use the words cunty, cuntish, cunted and cunting because they’ve been added to the dictionary. Or as they’re better known, One Direction.” Oh Drag with the lack of a Name, your humour is right up our street.

Manager, John, and his fabulous bar staff really know how to throw a camp old party. We can’t wait to jump on that DLR for another night out east.
