East Bloc promoter Wayne Shires and DJ/producer/remixer Tom Stephan have teamed-up to present Blocheads, a one-off warehouse party combining some of the best talent from east London with a unique club space. Check it out… Tom Stephan tells us more…
What’s Blocheads all about then?
The Blocheads are Wayne Shires, of Summer Rites and East Bloc, and myself, from clubs Dish and Hectic. We’ve been talking about doing an old school warehouse party for a while now, then Wayne found this amazing photographic studio. It’s a beautiful space: two rooms, great sound, even the toilets are impressive! And it’s a 5 minute walk from Shadwell Station, and an 8 minute taxi ride from Shoreditch.
What’s the deal musically?
The party is called ‘All About East’ – because well, let’s face it, it is! The legendary La Pequeña and her sexy Spanish Mafia will take control of the White Room with Cathal [Vogue Fabrics], Franx De Crystal [Dish] and Rafa Davila [AdDICKted] spinning you into a frenzy. The super hot Tomino will host the Black Room with the finest East End DJs: Hannah Holland [Paris Acid Ball], The Lovely Jonjo [Hot Boy Dancing Spot], Dave Kendrick [Macho City], the dishy Borja Peña [DISH/B-east] who’s celebrating his birthday, and, of course, me!
What three words would sum it all up?
Do not miss!
BLOCHEADS 3 x 3
3 BLOCHEADS DJs SHARE THEIR TOP 3 TRACKS
‘Next Order’ – Middle Finger
Pu-pu-pu-pumping track. Not what I usually play, but if I’ve had a few tequilas my fingers reach to this bad boy.
‘Bring in the Katz’ – Club Constructions
Vogue alert! You can imagine this played out loud in Brooklyn or NY! Loving it.
‘Pull Up’ – Groove Armada
I haven’t played any Groove Armada for ages, but this one makes me bounce. I’m feeling a Groove Armada comeback in full force!
‘Back Up Queen’ – Nathan Barato
Roxy’s fierce ‘Get Hur’ vocals sitting on top of a techy bass house number. Priceless.
‘Candy Darling’ (Clouded Vision Remix) – Hannah Holland
Twisted acid madness.
‘Track it to the Edge’ featuring Jamil Rafael – La’Beija (DJ Nita Remix)
New York’s finest.
‘Come Get My Lovin’ (NYC Mix) – Dionne
Massive classic favourite for me. All I love in a dance record – great melodic hook and THAT bass. Sexy.
‘Missing Love’ (Original Mix) – The Mekanism
Favourite record from the summer. I first heard it out in Berlin. Happy, soulful and sleazy = winner.
‘Strings Of Love’ (Original Mix) – Mak & Pasteman
Love this sound. If you hear this out you’ll dance. No messin’ around here.
• Blocheads is at Studio Space (110 Pennington Street, E1W 2BB) on Saturday 20th October, 10pm -7am.
