A:M

13/11/15: Barely a disco-nap away and yet so far removed, A:M, London’s longest running after-hours’ party, opened its doors at Fire as the world still reeled from learning of the terrible attacks on Paris.

The LGBT community is possibly the most effective melting pop there is, encompassing people of all shapes, creeds (and none), cultures and origins and that night, at a time when the world was a little more in need than usual of kindness, those two railway arches in Vauxhall were certainly one of the places to be.

Straight and queer, black and white were all there together in an exuberant celebration of music and life. The dark, smoky confines of the first room were but a warm up for the turbocharged blast of the second room which opened at 3:30.

It’s there that the party really found its groove and the crowd really went wild, bathed in the multicolour lasers and lights, and the electrifying beats dispensed by D’Johnny and Zach Burns who was treating us on his birthday. The club’s motto is “if you dance, we keep on going”.

On Friday it felt like we need to do both and A:M certainly helped that night.
