Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th May: WHAT A FORTNIGHT IT’S BEEN. Birmingham Pride, then Mighty Hoopla. We’ll be picking glitter out of our underwear for weeks. It’s not a proper LGBTQ event unless you end up with actual glitter on your actual penis. Birmingham Pride has truly blossomed over the last couple of years, down to organizers and bookers who have their fingers on the pulse and prioritise cool queer artist that reflect and resonate with the city’s diverse LGBTQ community. This year there was a bouncy and assured turn from trans popstar Kim Petras, a crowd-rousing, roof-raising smash of an appearance from MNEK, and loads of fabulousness from Beth Ditto. We spent a lot of our time in NIGHTINGALES, which had a host of parties over Saturday and Sunday – plus the future stage with legendary NYC rapper MNEK. Be sure to go next year, it’s a stone’s throw from London and is a real undiscovered gem!
