CARPET BURN

04/05/13: The first Saturday of the month and a bank holiday weekend? What better way to spend the night than having “a right effing knees up,” as promised by Carpet Burn.

Once again, the monthly night at The Eagle opened its doors to a Vauxhall crowd eager to escape the shirtless, pouting and preening, and just have a bloody good time.

With so many gays loving a bit of sci-fi (what’s that about?), it was nerd heaven in a pub normally known for leather and fetish than Obi Wan Kanobi. The Star Wars theme invited boys to jostle with their lightsabers, but it was not only the force that was with them; Denise Pearson from 5 Star was the night’s PA.

Denise proved time travel does exist, transporting us back to the 80s. With 5 Star scoring Top 5 hits with Rain or Shine and System Addict, we were more than happy to be back in 1986.

For the rest of the night, DJs Jim Stanton, Johnny Kalifornia and Ross Jones encouraged closet geeks to form a rebel alliance and cop off in their mothers’ basements. 90s hits, disco revivals and modern classics were the soundtrack to a night that saw stormtroopers crack a smile and gym addicts flaunt a pair of buns Princess Leia would kill for.
