05/11/11: Le Burn got freaky for a shagpile spectacular as Vauxhall’s crazee-est retro disco celebrated a sensational three years on the scene last weekend.
Drawing in a massed throng of party queens, funkateers and thrill-seekers, highlight of the evening saw none other than 80s chart topper, Jaki Graham, returning to the stage after bringing down the house earlier this year.
Performing a greatest hits rundown, the Brummie diva wowed the crowds with UK soul anthems including ‘Round and Round’, ‘Breaking Away’, ‘Could It Be I’m Falling in Love?’ (we don’t know dear, you tell us) and, our absolute fave, ‘Set Me Free’, that had us flouncing around on the dancefloor like big hair and shoulder-pads never went out of fashion.
Meanwhile, the birthday bonanza continued as dazzling DJ duo Dave Kendrick and Martyn Fitzgerald hit the decks for a full-on, 80s/90s showdown, keeping the block-rockin’ thru ‘til super-late. Carpet Burn, we salute you!
