CARPET MUNCHERS

This weekend, 80s and 90s dance/pop night Carpet Burn celebrates its 3rd birthday! Eagle’s main man Simon Kilner shares the love…

Tell the Carpet Burn virgins out there what the night offers that other clubs don’t…

Carpet Burn is a no nonsense knees up! We have a music policy of sambuca soaked, poppers giddy, 80/90’s pop and house classics. No ‘guilty pleasures’, just unashamedly good ‘hands in the air’ – or down someone’s pants – feel-good stompers. Carpet Burn welcome everyone: hairy blokes and femme real trannys to hairy trannies and effeminate blokes, we like it all, girls, boys, queers, straights whatever takes your fancy Nancy.

You’ve had some pretty obscure PAs over the years that have totally rocked the club!

We have had some truly amazing PAs over the past three years and some have been amazing not just for their singing abilities. Their very presence alone has been a sensation in itself… i.e. Pete Burns. We have adored every one of our guests from the likes of Limahl, Kym Mazelle, Steve Strange, Hazel Dean and Rozalla. One particular favourite has to have been Jaki Graham who brought the house down with her incredible voice and humble charm. We love her so much we have invited her back for our third birthday this Saturday!

What other scandalous Carpet Burn moments have there been that we should know about?

Oh, there is always a bit of scandal at le Burn. A few occasions spring to mind, but I need to be discreet as they involve some of our (in)famous PAs. You know me, I’m not a one to gossip, but give me enough Jagermeister and I could get quite loose lipped. Obviously Martyn’s naked floorshows have become the stuff of legend… ahem,

What’s on offer at the birthday?

We are super excited about the birthday! 3 years! We will be celebrating in true Carpet Burn style with big tunes, big drinks, big heels, big hair and big hangovers, probably. We have the gorgeous Dave Kendrick in the house, who always delivers a perfect mix of floor filling favourites. We also have the welcome the return of Carpet Burn House Mother Martyn Fitzgerald who can play a decent tune herself. As I mentioned earlier, the star of the show will be Jaki Graham, totally brilliant last time, if you missed her last appearance you gotta come see her this time! There will be plenty of Eagle London hospitality, of course, I will no doubt be staggering around handing out the free shots to get you in the birthday spirit.

Any NYE plans?

Well, watch this space as we are planning a spectacular Carpet Burn NYE special at Eagle and we are absolutely thrilled to announce our headline DJs, the inimitable Readers Wifes!

If Carpet Burn was a cocktail, what would the contents be?

Carpet Burn would be a potent blend of top shelf spirits and fruity mixers, but we would settle for a Pina Colada.

• Carpet Burn’s 3rd Birthday is at Eagle (349 Kennington Lane, Vauxhall, SE11 5QY) this Saturday 5th November.
