COLD WAR

01/09/13: When superstar DJ and all-round nice guy Kris di Angelis rang QX to tell us he was going to put on the biggest gay party of the year, we were like ‘Babes, we work on a gay scene magazine, every weekend is the biggest gay party of the year.’

But the beauty of this Sunday afternoon/evening bender was the sheer host of people who came together, united not only by their love of a good party and support for a good cause: The Peter Tatchell Foundation*. We paid our £5 on the door – charity don’t have no guestlists, y’all – to encounter the trendy trinity of Kris, Sam DMS and Jonathan Bestley just inside.

As we sipped on a London Fields beer by the bar, people from all over gay London began to spill in to the open air pop-up space; DJ Adam Turner, Alan Winter of Circa and Chad Sheldon of The Edge were in display; the trannies of the East End commandeered a screeching table; scene faces like bouncy Conan O’Neill and the ineffable Stuart Malcolm Honey were spotted; Jodie Harsh descended on the party as the sun went down, in shades so large and dark it was a minor miracle she could see where to strut.

And of course most of the QX staff were holding court by the bar. Soundtracked by a myriad of brilliant DJs (including the momentous Danny Rampling) giving up their time for free, this wonderful party raised over £1,700. Good on you, guys.

*Peter Tatchell couldn’t be at Cold War because of a pre-booked Pride appearance but sent his best wishes and utmost thanks to all who attended!
