DEELOODED GOES EAST

Legendary club DJ Fat Tony takes his latest club concept to the land of innovation with a special East London one-off session. He gave Anthony Gilét the breakdown…

For those Deelooded virgins out there, can you describe the night to them?

For people that have never been before, it’s all about having fun, a tongue in cheek take on the scene in general. Music at Deelooded is always uplifting, fun. Anything that moves you, grooves you. At Deelooded we believe music makes the night, that’s why we have the best DJs playing. It’s always cool, it’s always fresh. It’s a night for people that don’t take themselves too seriously… and a night for those that do! Deelooded in the past has been quite mixed and the attraction of a polysexual crowd is the future.

What spurred the decision to move the party to a new area of London?

When we started Deelooded in south London, it was always our intention to move around. For the future of clubbing, Deelooded needs to grow in every level. It’s not all about east or south, it’s purely about London.

Last year saw Deelooded uniting the east and south scenes; do you think the concept translates with the move?

Of course. We were always about moving Deelooded to other venues. With the involvement of the likes of Mark-Ashley Dupe, Jodie Harsh and Tom Stephan from day 1, it was always about bringing the South to the East and the East to the South, uniting clubbers in one unique party, with the best of both worlds. Who says it’s staying East for good? I hear there’s a really good scene in Peckham! [laughs]

Where did the concept of putting the ‘cat amongst the pigeons’ come from?

When I made the decision to move it East, I knew there would be a lot of people asking questions. I thought, in true Deelooded style, we only say what people think. It’s always good to get the first word in, and it makes life more exciting to ruffle a few feathers.

The timing of the event is much earlier this time round. Will this be a regular slot or a one-off?

The reason we are doing that Sunday slot is because there is a gap in the market that needs to be filled. Not everybody has Mondays off, and 4pm-1am is a more accessible time for those people. It’s also a new feel, a fresh direction that hasn’t really been done, especially East! The upstairs room will be perfect for Sunday lounging with downstairs set up for proper East London partying.

What is it that makes this year’s Deelooded better than those of 2012?

We’ve grown. We know how to put on a good event with new venues, new direction, new crowds and the best line-ups in London. We’re now coming up to our first birthday and believe me, there are so many things in this town that are Deelooded. Also, I can now announce that Deelooded will be on monthly East and South!

What else can we look forward to from Deelooded throughout 2013?

Expect the unexpected. The name says it all… Be afraid be very afraid because Deelooded is coming.

• Deelooded is at XOYO (32-37 Cowper Street, EC2A 4AP) on Sunday 10th February, 4pm-1am.
