Dirty Diana

24/01/14: Dirty D did just what it said on the tin and filled Dalston Superstore with two floors of dirty beats, filthy funk and higher-than-god house by no less than 12 local’n’global DJs Charlie Coin-Coin, Chema Diaz, Josh Caffe, Josh Quinton, Camplin and Vietheer, FERAL is KINKY, Cottweiler, Franco Harris, resident DJ co-hosts Samantha Togni and Conner West.

And from Rome’s Touch the Wood Club Marco G and Mr. Kite, all groovin’ seamlessly into one swirling wave of sonic colour wrapped around a packed house of casual urban cool and bitchless fun all movin’, shakin’, laughin’n’lovin tiil time ceased to exist.

Lee Dyer’s bi-monthly gift had over 400 homos and their homeys overflowing the li’l shop of whorers and another 150 outside cramming the queue almost by word of mouth. Lee took it all in stride, “It’s all friends of friends really. They’re here only for the music and fun. It’s more of a lifestyle than a club night, a true collaboration of styles; East End locals vs. gentrification.”

Damn right! I was greeted outside by trash glam duo James Talford n Callum Mac. At first I thought I they were part of the DD crew. “Oh no, we just got ‘dolled up’ for the fun of it. That’s why this night is so cool. It brings out the fun in everyone.”

From ethereal singer Starlen to local DJ and house blogger Martin Black, the eclectic mix danced under projections by DJ duo Cottweiler, Matthew Dainty and Ben Cottreol, East End boys turned rennaisance men whose forays into film, fashion and music have taken their brand across the US to Japan.

“Lee runs the show like the father of the bride,” quipped Martin Black dancing in the deep dark basement bar to Franco Harris’ hungry tribal beats. “He’s everywhere on top of everything keeping guests happy, music playing, and drinks flowing.”

Dusky jewel Caroline Amelia Williams summed it all up wisely. “What makes this night so perfect? Simple. Only people who really WANT to be here ARE here.”

Til Diana’s return….
