FUNK & RIDE

28/01/12: Though only a few minutes walk from Vauxhall tube station, a lesser gay venue could suffer teetering on the edge of Oval’s no-man’s land.

The Eagle, though, continues to take us – and countless others – under its wings. And then make us dance like lunatics! The recently launched monthly party Funk & Ride is really taking-off.

For those feeling the pinch at the weekend, the free entry before 10pm and £2 pints made not even the winter chill an acceptable excuse for staying in. With resident DJs Fred Mann and Ronnie King cosying up with Horse Meat Disco’s Luke Howard, the result was plenty of body heat as the boys flocked to the dancefloor.

Proving to be a welcome outpost for those who want something in between the light-hearted camp of some venues and the more hardcore, in-yer-face offerings at others, Funk & Ride delivered some real sexy soul to the scene on Saturday night.
