G-A-Y FEATURING NICOLA ROBERTS

24/09/11: It can’t be easy being the ‘underdog’ in any pop outfit. Where the other girls were all bouncy blonde locks and tanned skin, Nicola Roberts was for years made to blend in.

Then, suddenly, she was allowed to come into her own. Her gorgeous alabaster skin and flaming red hair shone through and she was even the toast of fashion legend Vivienne Westwood! Nicola suddenly gave Girls Aloud an edgy streak through her own gutsy take on her image.

And so, to her solo career, where she has continued to carve a niche for herself through her take on an alternative pop sound that last week resulted in Nicola taking to the main stage of G-A-Y! She worked her way through her solo material, ‘Beat of My Drum’, ‘Lucky Day’ and other tracks from forthcoming album, Cinderella’s Eyes, to rapturous applause from the crowd.

“Nicola was amazing,” G-A-Y promoter Jeremy Joseph told us backstage. “I was shocked by the reaction. She kinda reminds me of Victoria Beckham in that when she was part of a group, the others took over, but when they are on their own, she has this amazing personality that shines through.” You said it JJ!
