13/7/13: Evoking all the sheer madness and decadence of the legendary Studio 54 was the Drag Kings and Queens spectacle last Saturday at Heaven on the main floor!
An outrageous ode to our community’s age old love story with the wild and winsome ways of drag stars, the night’s tone was set with the offer of fast track entry to anybody entertaining their female alter-ego – any boy bedecked in his Mother’s finest frock.
It was from 12.30 that the night truly began; whereupon in a sinewy backdrop of smoke, a calamitous explosion of confetti cannons, the relentless whirl of the wind machine – in fact, everything short of descending from the heavens to the sound of bugles, being carried by a gaggle of cherubs – London’s Drag A-listers arrived in glittering, eye-watering gown after gown to belt out their renditions of chart smashers from their newly inserted stage at the highest point of the club floor.
That’s right; Rose Garden, Tanya Hyde, Baga-Chipz, La Voix, Sandra and Mary Mac saw that they made this particular Saturday a very special night indeed… With £1 donated to the EJAF for every game guy who turned up as a gal, it wasn’t all indulgent entertainment either, but great fun for a good cause!
